Alvin M. Weinberg Fellowship

Established in 2009, The Alvin M. Weinberg Fellowship honors Enrico Fermi Award-winner and former ORNL Director, Alvin Weinberg (1955- 1973). The Weinberg Fellowship is awarded to early career scientists and engineers in physical and biological sciences, computational sciences, nuclear engineering, material sciences, and related disciplines with an interest in energy and energy-related science and technology challenges. The Weinberg Fellowships seek cutting-edge researchers that have exhibited strong leadership early in their careers.

Selected Weinberg Fellows demonstrate potential to develop into ORNL’s future scientific and technical leaders at the highest levels, either as a scientist/engineer or as a technical manager. ORNL hires Weinberg Fellows as staff associates and expect Fellows to contribute high-quality research to ORNL beyond the initial fellowship appointment. Fellowship appointments are fully-funded research appointments for two years.

The Weinberg Fellowship is offered four times a year. Current openings can be found on the ORNL Career’s Website. Applicants must have received their doctoral degrees before their start dates and can be no more than three years beyond receiving their doctoral degrees at the date of application submission. Applicants should not have previously held more than one postdoctoral appointment.
