ESH&Q Focus

Our focus is on merging the values of environmental protection, worker health and safety, and quality with the interests of enabling leading, world-class research and development. We frame our actions and services within our customers' expectations to achieve cost-effectiveness and timeliness and to reduce risk.

ESH&Q Mission

The Environment, Safety, Health and Quality Directorate strengthens scientific ingenuity and innovation at ORNL by

• helping line organizations protect the health and safety of workers and the public,
• monitoring the Laboratory's impact on the environment,
• ensuring compliance with federal and state statutes and Department of Energy regulations in this area, and
• supporting quality and effectiveness in operation.

ESH&Q Divisions

• Environmental Protection & Waste Services—waste management, environmental compliance, waste services
• Health Services—occupational health, wellness programs, emergency response
• Nuclear and Radiological Protection—radiological protection operations, nuclear and criticality safety guidance, dosimetry, radiological support
• Quality Systems and Services—quality services and programs, training, SBMS documents, records management
• Safety Services—industrial hygiene services, health and safety support
