Oak Ridge hosts Solar Summit Oct. 24-25

Spotlighting solar energy opportunities will be the focus of the first Southeast Solar Summit scheduled Oct. 24 -25 at the Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

Oak Ridge's Melissa Lapsa says use of solar energy is growing throughout the Southeast.

"There are federal incentives to install solar as well as local incentives, such as from the Tennessee Valley Authority and the Green Power Switch program," Lapsa said.

Lapsa added that Oak Ridge's work with various solar energy technologies will be showcased during the summit.

"We have a new center for advanced thin film solar cells and a new photovoltaic system that has 24 panels on it," Lapsa said. "We also have our hybrid solar lighting system. We're going to have a workshop on this technology that's now commercially available."

ORNL is managed by UT-Battelle for the Department of Energy.
