Russian physicist, ex-politician will present distinguished lecture at ORNL

Dr. Yevgeni P. Velikhov, a renowned Russian physicist, former member of the Supreme Soviet (legislature) and president of Moscow's Kurchatov Institute, will present a distinguished lecture at 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 20, in Wigner Auditorium at the Department of Energy's (DOE) Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

Velikhov will speak on the topic Challenge of 21st Century & Energy Technology. Velikhov has written a number of publications related to science and the problems of prevention of nuclear war. He is a member and former chairman of the Committee of Soviet Scientists for Peace Against Nuclear Threat and co-founder of the International Foundation for Survival and Development of Humanity. Velikhov has served as a delegate to numerous scientific and peace conferences.

He is a professor and former lab director of the Institute of Atomic Energy in Moscow, professor of physics at the University of Moscow and member of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
