BER Receives Proposals In Biomedical Engineering
On April 9, BER issued an announcement (LAB 99-18) to the national laboratories requesting proposals for pilot projects in biomedical engineering. Almost 90 proposals were received for the technical areas of (1) biomaterials; (2) biological, chemical, and genetic sensors; (3)biomedical applications of lasers; (4)imaging; and (5) informatics. On June 7-8, a panel of scientific experts convened in Gaithersburg, Maryland, to evaluate the scientific merits of the proposed projects. Seventeen proposals are being funded for a total of $2 million a year.
