Mary Ann A O'Shell

GIS Research Assistant

I am currently a subcontractor with Ingenium Professional Services working as part of a team in the Remote Sensing Group at ORNL. I recently graduated magna cum laude  from Roane State Community College with an A.A.S. degree in Geographic Information Systems. My work at ORNL includes analyzing satellite imagery to identify and digitize building footprints, and QA/QC to help carry out our team’s standards and verify the results are as expected.

I was a graphic designer before my work in GIS. I lived abroad as a child, and since have had a penchant for exploring the world and understanding its people. My experience in art & design, and proficiency in computers — married with my love for science and the world — provided a natural progression and smooth segue into GIS.

Thinking creatively, searching for facts, using new technologies in meaningful ways... these are only a few of the things that excite me about my work in the Remote Sensing Group.
