Mikayla M Duggan

Nuclear Engineer - Neutronics Analyst for Isotope Production

Mikayla began her career at ORNL in 2018 as a student studying and testing methods for producing Th-229, parent to medical isotope Ac-225. She completed a post-master's appointment in 2020 where she learned wet chemistry methods for separating adjacent lanthanides (i.e. Lu/Yb) and joined ORNL as an Isotope Production Technical Professional staff member in 2021 where she performed the hot cell operations and chemical processing activities for the Ra-226, Ac-227, and Th-228 production lines. In 2023, Mikayla joined the Target Design, Analysis and Qualifications Group as a Nuclear Engineer R&D Associate where she currently works on the target design, fabrication, and neutronic safety analyses needed to produce new isotopes in HFIR.

Mikayla holds bachelors' degrees in both nuclear engineering and applied mathematics from Missouri University of Science and Technology and a master's degree in nuclear, plasma, and radiological engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana - Champaign.
