The Distinguished Fellowship Program grants a limited number of outstanding post-doctorate-level scientists and engineers the opportunity to gain experience in areas of science and technology of national importance. Fellows are expected to contribute greatly to the research efforts of ORNL, contribute knowledge about the most recent developments in university science and engineering departments, represent ORNL with its collaborators in the scientific community, and work to advance the missions and goals of Oak Ridge National Laboratory and The Department of Energy.
Eugene P. Wigner Fellowship is the most prestigious ORNL,early-career fellowship, and is extended to researchers in various science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines. The Wigner Fellowship aims to attract new scientific talent to ORNL and make it possible for outstanding new scientists to excel while contributing to ORNL and Department of Energy missions and goals.
Alvin M. Weinberg Fellowship is aimed at early-career scientists and engineers in physical and biological sciences, computational sciences, nuclear engineering, materials sciences, and related disciplines with an interest in energy and energy-related science and technology challenges. This fellowship seeks those with a demonstrated potential for technical and scientific leadership at the highest levels.
Liane B. Russell Fellowship is the newest Distinguished Fellowship at ORNL. The Russell Fellowship is an integral part of ORNL’s diversity recruiting effort, aimed at attracting a world-class and diverse workforce of early career researchers. Clifford G. Shull Fellowship was established to attract new scientific talent to ORNL and its neutron science programs. The fellowship is open to fields of science and engineering that further advances in neutron science, including physical, chemical, materials, biological, and medical sciences.
