The Transport Security Tracking and Reporting (T-STAR) system provides location, operation, and security-sensor status at regular, user-defined intervals as well as immediate alerts for assessing the security of high-consequence shipments.

Packaged in two remarkably adaptable designs and offering a variety of antenna configurations for accommodating various conveyances, the T-STAR core riding with the shipment communicates with a cloud-based server primarily via GSM messages.

T-STAR can also use iridium satellite communication when needed. The server can send alerts to authorized users (shippers, carriers, responders, or regulators) via email and text message. These users can also monitor the shipment using the web-based user interface.

T-STAR’s two modular designs, saddle and bolt-on (pictured above), adapt to all conveyance types, including trailers, and are easily positioned without the need for modifications. The lithium-ion battery operates the system which accepts a wide range for recharging: battery (12V or 24V), wall output, or portable charging station.

T-STAR uses a communications control unit and a suite of wireless COTS security sensors placed in a conveyance to provide cost-effective, modular transport security. The suite of sensors adapts to ocean, road, or rail transport vehicles or temporary storage buildings.

A Wi-Fi-connected Android app is used to locally configure settings, test security sensors, and arm the system without a server connection. T-STAR includes

  1. Weatherproof case with indicator lights and fob
  2. Android control panel
  3. Suite of applicable security sensors
  4. Charging cable

The smartphone- or computer-accessible web-based dashboard allows sensor nodes to be remotely configured, user roles to be assigned, and alerts and notifications to be configured. The intuitive interface uses live mapping to track shipments and shows system state; time since last communication; and pending, unacknowledged alerts.
