Exploring cost-effective energy solutions for buildings
The Integrated Building Deployment and Analysis Group conducts research on integrated solutions for building energy efficiency and provides unique research to support the Department of Energy’s programs. Research spans both residential and commercial/institutional building markets.
The group provides technical support to DOE's Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) for both the Energy Savings Performance Contracts (ESPC) and Utility Energy Savings Performance Contracts (UESC) programs. Through its role for FEMP, the group provides federal agencies and their sites with project development guidance, technical support and training on ESPC/UESC process. The group also analyzes technical and financial performance data at the project, agency and program level for FEMP.
For the DOE Weatherization and Intergovernmental Programs Office (WIPO), the group conducts field research projects, evaluates weatherization implementation results, develops residential weatherization energy auditing tools and develops training for state organizations on the effective use of audit tools. The group also conducts unique research projects using the two light commercial buildings (flexible research platforms) and a residential home that are part of the DOE-designated national user facility within the ORNL Building Technologies Research and Integration Center (BTRIC). In addition, the group collaborates with experts in the ORNL building envelope group and building equipment group. Researchers within the group also work closely with ORNL data scientists that have access to premier computing capabilities. By collaborating with industry, universities, utilities and government agencies, the group evaluates systems of energy efficiency solutions for buildings.
