The Thermal Hydraulics Group designs and conducts computational fluid-dynamics and experimental testing for performance analysis of thermal hydraulics in advanced reactor concepts. A related core competency is detailed computational and experimental analysis of components for advanced reactors.
The group also leverages ORNL's world-class facilities such as the High Flux Isotope Reactor and the laboratory's leadership in programs such as the Transformational Challenge Reactor to develop high-performance computer applications for design and safety assessments.
To advance research and development of emerging digital twin technology for reactors, the group is combining ORNL's competencies in high-fidelity computational fluid dynamics, multi-physics knowledge, and artificial intelligence and machine learning.
