Kuliasha Named Director of CPED At ORNL

Dr. Michael Kuliasha has been appointed director of the Computational Physics and Engineering Division (CPED) at the Department of Energy's (DOE) Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

CPED conducts research on a wide range of scientific computing applications, including the modeling of radiation transport and physics phenomena, criticality safety, nuclear data, thermodynamic analysis, structural and fracture mechanics, system engineering, and the development of geographic information systems. The division consists of more than 200 researchers.

Kuliasha joined ORNL in 1977 and most recently served as associate director of the Energy Division. He received a bachelor's degree in mathematics and master's and doctorate degrees in nuclear engineering from the University of New Mexico.

He and his wife, Julia Suzanne, live in Farragut.

ORNL, one of the Department of Energy's multiprogram national research and development facilities, is managed by Martin Marietta Energy Systems, which also manages the Oak Ridge K-25 Site and the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant
