Moniz praises ORNL's neutron production efforts

OAK RIDGE, Tenn., Jun. 10, 2013 — New Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz praised the Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory for its scientific capabilities for conducting in-depth studies on the structures of materials during his June 3 visit to the laboratory. Visiting ORNL for the first time since he became energy secretary in May, Moniz visited the High Flux Isotope Reactor and the Spallation Neutron Source. "The High Flux Isotope Reactor is this country's primary reactor source and the Spallation Neutron Source is the premier world facility spallation source," Moniz said during a news conference. "Oak Ridge history with neutrons goes back three generations. Oak Ridge is the center for this technology and much more that we do in science and in energy." Moniz toured several venues at ORNL, Y-12 and East Tennessee Technology Park to get briefings on the various Department of Energy missions taking place throughout Oak Ridge.
