ORNL Researcher Appointed Associate Technical Editor

Marina B. Ruggles, a development staff member of the Engineering Technology Division of the Department of Energy's (DOE) Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), has been named associate technical editor of the Journal of Pressure Vessel Technology (PVT), the premier international journal for pressure vessel and piping technology.

Ruggles specializes in mechanics of materials and high temperature material behavior.

PVT is the second most profitable journal of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and is distributed to the 14,000 individuals in ASME's Pressure Vessel and Piping Division. Members of ASME's Design and Analysis Committee nominated Ruggles for the position.

Before joining ORNL eight years ago, Ruggles spent two years with General Electric's Corporate Research and Development Division in New York. She earned her bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of New York. Her master's in mechanics and doctorate in mechanical engineering came from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute of Troy, N.Y.

Ruggles adds this honor to her list, which includes the 1990 and 1993 Martin Marietta Energy Systems Special Achievement awards.

Ruggles is a native of Kiev, Ukraine, and resides in West Knoxville with her 11-year-old son, Patrick.

ORNL, one of DOE's multiprogram national research and development facilities, is managed by Lockheed Martin Energy Research Corp.
