Bennett Richard Bass

B. Richard Bass joined ORNL in 1976 after obtaining his doctorate from Tulane University and after holding faculty appointments at the University of Wales and Old Dominion University. His work has resulted in more than 200 technical publications and has been incorporated into regulations and national consensus codes. He currently manages the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission program at ORNL that develops probabilistic structural safety assessment technology for nuclear power plants.

Dr. Bass has made outstanding scientific, programmatic, and institutional contributions to ORNL in advanced computational structural mechanics and nuclear safety technologies. He is a world leader in the development and application of advanced computational methods and computer codes for structural analyses of complex components, including nuclear reactor pressure vessels.

He was named a corporate fellow in 2008.
