Additive manufacturing (AM) is a unique type of fabrication that builds objects layer-by-layer from virtually any feedstock. When compared to traditional, subtractive manufacturing, AM wastes less feedstock material, which makes it ideal for the shaping of magnetic materials. Furthermore, complex geometries with advanced heat and mass transport properties can be created out of highly reactive lanthanides which could not be created with traditional manufacturing. This work describes the results of shaping these materials into high-resolution microchannel geometries via additive manufacturing and the resulting characteristics of the printed artifacts.
