Abstract
The Holifield Radioactive Ion Beam Facility (HRIBF) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory has a
variety of ion sources used to produce radioactive ion beams (RIBs). Of these, the workhorse is an
electron beam plasma (EBP) ion source. The recent addition of a second RIB injector, the Injector
for Radioactive Ion Species 2 (IRIS2), for the HRIBF tandem accelerator prompted new studies of
the optics of the beam extraction from the EBP source. The source was modeled using SIMION V8.0,
and results will be presented, including comparison of the emittances as predicted by simulation and
as measured at the HRIBF offline ion source test facilities. Also presented will be the impact on
phase space shape resulting from extraction optics modifications implemented at IRIS2.
