Abstract
ZEEMANS, a new instrument proposed for the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS)
at Oak Ridge, will provide highest available magnetic elds for neutron scattering experiments.
The unique capabilities of the magnet, large size and required connection to utilities demand
a versatile instrument, able of performing di raction (powder and single crystal), SANS,
re
ectometry, and inelastic spectrometry, with minimal modi cations between con gurations.
In this paper we present preliminary design features for ZEEMANS. Monte Carlo simulations
and analytical calculations were used to study its expected performance.
