Ahad Tanim

Postdoctoral Research Associate

Ahad grew up in Bangladesh, where he earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Civil Engineering from the Chittagong University of Engineering & Technology (CUET). He began his career as a research faculty at the Institute of River, Harbor, and Environmental Science, where he spent four years conducting research projects on Coastal Engineering.  He enjoys teaching geospatial data analysis and numerical modeling to professionals, helping them gain valuable skills and insights.

In the 2020s, Ahad moved to the United States and completed his PhD at the University of South Carolina in 2023. His doctoral research, "Coastal and Inland Flooding: From Advanced Hydrodynamics and Data-Driven Modeling to Multivariate Coastal Vulnerability Assessment," focused on the life cycle of coastal and inland flood risk management.

Accomplishing his doctoral research, Ahad joined Oak Ridge National Laboratory as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Water Resources Science and Engineering Group. Currently, his research focused on numerical modeling to simulate hydro-thermal stratification of reservoirs, aiming to address potential challenges in reservoir operations under changing climate conditions. Additionally, he is developing 'Py-QUAL-W2,' a wrapper for the CE-QUAL-W2 hydrodynamic model, which is widely used for reservoir water quality analysis. In his free time, Ahad enjoys fun activities like playing football, fishing, and rafting.
