Alyssa N Alsante

Postdoctoral Research Associate

Dr. Alyssa Alsante received a B.S. in Microbiology from the University of Tennesse and a Ph.D. in Oceanography from Texas A&M University where she was co-advised in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences. She has a background in the characterization of biological aerosol with a focus on potential feedbacks between the biosphere and Earth’s climate system. She studied the role of aerosol as ice nucleating particles (INPs), which facilitate the formation of ice-containing clouds and impact global climate and hydrological cycling. She has received awards for both outstanding research and teaching from the Department of Oceanography and Texas A&M University. Dr. Alsante is working with Dr. Meng-Dawn Cheng on the formation and aging of inorganic aerosol in environmental conditions of interest to nuclear security. She is also interested in continuing research on ice nucleation to better understand cloud formation properties of carbonaceous particles to incorporate in global climate models and reduce uncertainties associated with aerosol-cloud interactions.
