Ben M Lamie

Group Lead, Testbed Design Engineering

Ben has worked in various roles as an Engineer in the nuclear, medical and 3D CAD industries over the past 18 years. In that time he has developed an extensive knowledge in leading projects and engineering design efforts that include medical device product development, process piping and equipment design/ installation, and isotope science and engineering research and development . He is also a highly experienced Mechanical Design Engineer and has extensive knowledge in both machine and mechanical systems design. 

In 2006, Ben went to work for ModernTech Mechanical in Knoxville, TN. As an Applications Engineer, Ben developed a strong working knowledge of the SolidWorks 3D CAD software suite as he provided training and tech support to a wide range of customers. In 2010, he went to work for Berchtold Corporation in Charleston, SC. As Mechanical Design Engineer and Project Lead, he led multiple design and sustainment activities involving operating room equipment. In 2015, he went to work for Nuclear Fuel Services in Erwin, TN. In his role as Sr. Design/Project Engineer he developed a working knowledge of engineering, construction and project management in a nuclear environment. He also developed, deployed and administered SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM as the 3D design and configuration management system for mechanical design at NFS. He came to ORNL as a Mechanical Design Engineer in March of 2020. In his time at ORNL he has worked on multiple machine and mechanical systems design effort as part of the Enrichment Science and Engineering Division (ESED). He is now Group Lead of the Testbed Design Engineering group in the Enrichment Science and Engineering Division.

Ben holds a M.S. degree in Engineering Science as well as a B.S. degree in Biomedical Engineering. 

Ben is a Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the state of TN as well as a Project Management Professional (PMP) as awarded by the Project Management Institute.
