Christopher J Schmitt

Scientific Associate

Christopher Schmitt received a Ph.D. in Physics with an emphasis in accelerator based nuclear physics from the University of Notre Dame (2010).  As part of the Accelerator Mass Spectrometry group his research focus was looking at atomic charge exchange, charge state distributions, and atomic collisions.  In 2011 he went to the University of Tennessee with the Materials Science and Engineering department as a Research Associate and operations manager of the Ion Beam Materials Laboratory setting up an accelerator laboratory dedicated to studying radiation damage.  Starting in 2016 he became a Scientific Associate at the Spallation Neutron Source overseeing the operations of the Cold Neutron Chopper Spectrometer (CNCS) and the Backscattering Spectrometer (BASIS).
