Christopher M Hayes

Mr. Christopher Hayes, of Oak Ridge National Laboratory, has worked in the nuclear, radiological, and chemical security arena for over 12 years.  He has been a technical specialist and the lead manager for a number of projects that the U.S. government performed with the Russian Federation Ministry of Defense.  From 2002-2005, Mr. Hayes was the project manager for nuclear weapons transportation security projects involving the nuclear weapons shipments, railcar physical protection systems, armored transport vehicles, and emergency response vehicles.  From 2006-2008, he oversaw the physical security system upgrades at four separate Russian Ministry of Defense nuclear weapons storage sites as part of the Bratislava Nuclear Security Initiative.  From 2009-2013 he was ORNL’s lead on the Abramovo Counterterrorism Training Center, and the Centralized Maintenance Management System project, part of the Performance Assurance Program to assist the RF MOD with the long-term sustainment of their nuclear weapons storage sites physical protection systems.  Most recently, Mr. Hayes has been conducting radiological and chemical security work with partner countries in central and southwest Asia.

            Prior to joining ORNL, Mr. Hayes spent twenty years as a U.S. Navy pilot in a wide range of operational and staff assignments.  He received his Bachelors degree from Holy Cross College, and his Masters degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College.
