Douglas N Collins

Chief Operating Officer, Physical Sciences Directorate

Doug Collins is the Chief Operating Officer for the Physical Sciences Directorate (PSD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.  The Physical Sciences Directorate (PSD) conducts highly integrated basic and applied research programs that develop new materials, chemical processes, and technologies for energy generation and storage and environmentally benign energy use. PSD's research encompasses foundational science in chemistry, materials science, nanoscience, and physics.

Doug brings extensive experience to the COO role which includes over 25 years of operational, project management, and process improvement experience in both the private and public sectors.  Doug joined the Laboratory in 2007 and has served in various compliance and continuous improvement leadership roles.  Most recently, he served as the COO for the Quantum Science Center where he was responsible for all center operational activities.  He also served as the Deputy Project Management Director for the Exascale Computing Project where he coordinated operational activities for the project.

Doug holds an Engineering Degree from Tennessee Technological University and a master's in Management and Human Resources from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.  He also holds a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute.
