Ed Meyer

Group Leader for Emerging Technology Analysis

Dr. Edmund Meyer obtained his PhD from the University of CO, Boulder in 2010. He is a theoretical physicist so is good at physics, at least in theory. Prior to joining ORNL, he worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory; first as an Agnew National Security Postdoctoral Fellow in the Theoretical Division (T-Div). He moved from T-Div to the Analytic Division (A-Div) when converting to a staff scientist. His primary focus was on atomic physics, material science, and physics of materials at extremes. He applied this knowledge to emerging areas in nuclear intelligence. In the summer of 2021, Ed moved to ORNL as a Senior R&D Staff for Disruptive Technologies to build an emerging and disruptive technology analysis effort where he branched away from nuclear things to other avenues. He is now the group leader for the newly formed (Feb. 2024) Emerging Technology Analysis Group. This group focuses on all the fun ways new technology--AI, QIS, Biotech, Semiconductors, HPC, and materials among many others--is likely to alter the economic and national security landscape of the US. He has a lot fun doing his work.
