Filipe Leite Brandao

Postdoctoral Research Associate

Dr. Brandao earned his PhD (2023) in aerospace engineering at the University of Minnesota and his MS (2015) and BS (2013) in mechanical engineering from the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He has expertise in numerical modeling and simulations of multiphase flows, including liquid-gas and solid-gas mixtures. His doctorate work consisted in developing a robust code for large-eddy simulation (LES) of turbulent cavitating flows in unstructured grids, which was funded by the Office of Naval Research (ONR). He also has experience in modeling multiphase flows to simulate gasification/pyrolysis process in fluidized beds. His research interests include CFD code development for high-performance computing, LES, multiphase flows, combustion and turbulence.
