Ian S Turnbull

Mechanical Design Engineer

Ian is a Knoxville native. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three boys.

Ian started at ORNL in 2020. He is the Instrument Systems Engineer for MARS (CG-1D) at HFIR and TOPAZ (BL-12) and MaNDi (BL-11B) at SNS. Also, he has contributed to the design effort for VENUS (BL-10)

Before coming ORNL he worked for the medical device manufacturer Pronova Solutions as a manufacturing engineer and then as a mechanical design engineer. While there he provided mechanical design support for a superconducting cyclotron, a proton beam monitoring ionization chamber, and a concept for a compact proton therapy system as well as designing tooling and fixturing for the assembly and shipping of the SC360 Proton Therapy device.

Ian graduated with a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Tennessee Technological University in 2012.
