Iyad I Al-Qasir

R&D Senior Staff Member

Dr. Al-Qasir began his journey with the Nuclear Data Group at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in 2023 as a senior R&D staff member. His primary expertise revolves around the meticulous evaluation of nuclear data and the profound exploration of material properties exposed to extreme conditions, characterized by soaring temperatures and intense neutron radiation doses.

To improve nuclear data quality and our understanding of how materials behave under extreme conditions. Dr. Al-Qasir's approach combines the strengths of experimental techniques, such as neutron scattering, to extract valuable insights from real-world observations. Additionally, he harnesses the power of cutting-edge computational methodologies, with a specific emphasis on atomistic simulations, to further unravel the complexities of these phenomena.

Dr. Al-Qasir completed both a bachelor's degree (1998) and a master's degree (2002) in Physics at the University of Jordan. His Ph.D. study was conducted at the Department of Nuclear Engineering at North Carolina State University (2007). Between 2007 and 2010 he worked as a full-time lecturer at the Department of Physics at the University of Jordan where he taught many undergraduate and graduate courses. Dr. Al-Qasir's first postdoctoral research associate was conducted at the Department of Nuclear Engineering at North Carolina State University (2010-2012) and his second postdoctoral associate was in the neutron and x-ray scattering and thermo-physics group within the Materials Science and Technology Division (MSTD) in Oak Ridge National Laboratory (2012-2013). In 2013, he joined the Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering at the University of Sharjah in UAE, to act as a founding member of the first undergraduate Nuclear Engineering program in the UAE. Dr. Al-Qasir also serves as an adjunct researcher at the Center for Advanced Materials Research (CAMR) at the University of Sharjah, effective from September 1st, 2022.

PhD in Nuclear Engineering,  North Carolina State University (2007)
