Quality Assurance Team Lead

Jeff Mandl is the Quality Assurance Team Lead for the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR).  HFIR is a DOE hazard category I nuclear reactor that provides one of the highest steady-state neutron fluxes in the world.  With a team of 6 Nuclear Quality Representatives, Jeff helps to ensure full compliance to numerous codes and standards, including ASME NQA-1.  The team supports operations and maintenance at all stages, and with all other departments.

Jeff joined ORNL in 2016 and has supported multiple organizations during that time.  This has provided a broad base of laboratory operations knowledge, while utilizing skills in Engineering, Causal Analysis, Continuous Improvement, Auditing, and many other areas.

Prior to ORNL, Jeff was in the US Marine Corps Reserve, worked in various Engineering and Quality Assurance roles for over 14 years at General Electric, and 2 years in Quality for Los Alamos National Laboratory.  He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from San Jose State University, and prior certifications as a Certified Quality Engineer and Six Sigma Black Belt.
