Jon Leiner

Neutron Optics and Polarization Scientist

Jon Leiner is a member of the Neutron Optics & Polarization Group serving as a Neutron Optics & Polarization Scientist. Prior to joining ORNL in January 2023, Jon was working since 2019 as an Instrument Scientist with the RESEDA resonant spin-echo spectrometer at the FRM II reactor on the campus of the Technical University of Munich in Garching, Germany. He worked on implementing major upgrades to the instrument including new superconducting magnets and a new SANS tube. In addition, Jon worked at ORNL and Seoul National University between 2013 and 2018 doing inelastic neutron scattering experiments in topics such as frustrated magnetism, quantum magnetism, superconductors, and topological insulators. Currently, he is working with mode-entangled neutron beams generated by resonant spin-echo techniques.

2012 PhD Physics, University of Notre Dame

2007 B.S. Physics, Mathematics, Washington State University
