Patrick Sanford has been a Technical Training Specialist for the RO/SRO,STA and RP programs in Research Reactors Division (RRD) since 2023. Technical Training Specialist is responsible to the Training Group Lead for maintenance of the assigned certification/qualification and recertification/requalification programs. In fulfilling this responsibility, technical training specialists perform the following functions:
- Administer certification/qualification and recertification/requalification records for personnel in the assigned training program, as applicable. - Administer a formal OJT program, as applicable.
- Administer written examinations for initial certification/qualification, abnormal plant procedures and emergencies, and recertification/requalification, as applicable.
- Provide and maintain up-to-date training materials for assigned training programs, as applicable.
- Schedule training sessions for personnel in the assigned training program, as applicable.
- Schedule written examinations, operational evaluations, oral walk-through examinations, and scenario evaluations for personnel in the assigned training program, as applicable.
- Monitor procedural changes, TSR changes, changes in administrative policy, lessons learned from occurrence reports and industry experience, and incorporate results into appropriate training program elements.
- Evaluate assigned training program and Technical Training Instructor effectiveness.
Patrick assists the RRD Drill Coordinator whose primary duties include developing and leading all drills/exercise for RRD, as well as assisting the Emergency Preparedness Coordinator in the maintenance of RRD's Emergency Management/Emergency Preparedness program.
Professional Experience
Patrick has approximately 25 years experience in nuclear operations and training including 8 years in the Navy Nuclear Power Program, 11 years as a HFIR Reactor Operator and the last 7 years in the HFIR Training group. While in the Navy, he served as the Calibration Coordinator on board the USS Wyoming as well as the Assistant Quality Assurance Officer on the USS Wyoming.
Education
Completed the Naval Nuclear Power Program.
