Tyler D Walker

Tyler Walker joined the Bredesen Center at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 2021 after completing a B. A. in Biochemistry at Colorado College. Over his research career, Tyler has studied novel therapeutic compounds, DNA and RNA nucleobases, and molten salt materials. His principal interests are in computational simulation of advanced materials for sustainable development and energy transitions. Tyler is advised by Dr. Stephan Irle at ORNL, and his current research involves applications of ab initio methods and the tight-binding approximation to density functional theory (DFTB). For Tyler, computational chemistry represents an essential framework in the rational design of critical infrastructural materials, including battery materials.
