Yajie Zhao was born in Hubei, China. She earned her bachelor degree with a major in Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB) in the summer of 2016. After that, she joined Dr. Steven Zinkle’s research group at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She studies there for a Ph.D. degree in Materials Science and Engineering, and she obtained a Doctor of Philosophy degree in spring 2023.

Yajie studied the stability of nano-scale precipitates in Fe-based binary alloys under ion irradiation conditions for her PhD thesis. She learned how to use atom probe tomography (APT) and develop customized Python codes to meet specific data analysis needs. For the postdoc, she works on deuterium charging of steels, and cryo-transfer of APT samples.
