Yong Joong Lee is a Senior Target Systems R&D Engineer for the Second Target Station (STS) Project at the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). He has been planning, managing, and executing the Target Systems R&D program to provide solutions to technical challenges faced by the STS Target Systems Design, since joining the ORNL in 2021. Yong Joong Lee has more than 15 years of experience in the field of spallation physics and high-power target technologies. Prior to joining STS, he
worked for the high-power target systems at two MW-class spallation sources, the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Sweden and the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) in Switzerland. At ESS, he performed extensive research on spallation materials as Materials R&D Lead. At PSI, he performed research on technologies for spallation targets, muon production targets, collimator systems, and beam current monitors that can manage MW-class proton beam power. His research interests include spallation physics, high-power target technologies, nuclear materials, particle physics and accelerator driven medical isotopes production.
