Double-Magic Nature of 132Sn and 208Pb

Gamma-ray spectra revealing excited single-neutron states in (a) Pb-209, (b) Sn-131, and (c) Sn-133 following sub-Coulomb Be-9 induced one-neutron transfer reactions
Recent study reveals double-magic nature of radioactive 132Sn and stable 208Pb through lifetime and cross-section measurements of single-neutron states in adjacent nuclei.
  • Lifetimes and cross sections are consistent with pure single-neutron excitations.
  • Complete spectroscopy by (9Be, 8,10Beg): energies, absolute cross sections, and lifetimes.
  • First measurement of excited-state lifetimes in 133Sn and d3/2 lifetime in 209Pb; lifetimes from fast spin-flip M1 transitions.
  • First cross-section measurement of s1/2 in 131Sn and h9/2 in 133Sn.
  • New 513-keV transition from p1/2 state in 133Sn.
  • Determined spectroscopic factors and asymptotic normalization coefficients from cross sections, and B(M1) transition strengths from lifetimes
