Millikelvin Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (mK-STM)

Unisoku Millikelvin Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (mK-STM)

Mk STM

Installed in 2023, the Unisoku USM 1600 STM realizes the lowest base temperature and high magnetic field for STM. It has a Cryogenic dilution refrigeration cryostat operating at 40 mK with superconductor vector magnet, controlled by Nanonis™ SPM control system. It is a high-end performance STM for detection and manipulation of electronic and magnetic states and low-energy excitations, fundamental to study superconductivity and low temperature physics with atomic fidelity.

FEATRUES:
•    Structural and spectral mapping in atomic resolution
•    Spin-polarized STM
•    Quasiparticle interference (QPI) STM
•    Inelastic tunneling spectroscopy (IETS)
•    Base temperature: < 40 mK
•    Liquid helium holding time up to 7 days
•    Ultra-high vacuum: < 10-10 Torr
•    Vector magnetic field (2-2-9 T in XYZ direction)
•    Sample transfer in vacuum by using UHV suitcase
•    Sample annealing (< 1500 K), sputtering (Ne ion)
•    Tip cleaning with electron bombardment heating
•    MBE deposition with thermal/ e-beam evaporator.
•    Low temperature cleaving (80 K)
