The Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory, in partnership with the Nuclear Science User Facilities (NSUF), provides researchers from universities, industry, and other national labs fully funded access to ORNL's dedicated nuclear infrastructure and expertise to study nuclear fuels and materials.

ORNL offers irradiation experiment design, neutron and gamma irradiations, cask transportation management and receipt at multiple hot cell facilities, and post-irradiation examination in hot cells and specialized out-of-cell laboratories for irradiated fuels and materials characterization. Facilities at ORNL can receive and analyze irradiated fuels and materials from outside research or commercial nuclear reactors and ion irradiation facilities. NSUF provides users access not only to the infrastructure and high-end tools, but also to resident technical experts at ORNL capable of providing instruction on techniques, discussion of findings, and possible new avenues of exploration.
