On November 26, 2018, researchers from Oak Ridge National Laboratory received the Joule Award from Barbara Hoffheins of the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Office of International Nuclear Safeguards.
Scientific Achievement
Found that, when confined in the ~ 5 Å wide channels in a beryl crystal, the water molecule undergoes quantum tunneling between six symmetrically equivalent positions around the c-axis in the structure.
