Contract awarded for SNS electrical commodities

Contract pricing agreements have been awarded for site-wide electrical commodities at the Spallation Neutron Source project at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

Three local firms received contract awards for electrical commodities in support of general construction contractors and SNS equipment installation teams. Construction management for SNS is performed by Knight/Jacobs Joint Venture.

Stokes Electric Company of Knoxville received a contract award for wire/cable and fiber-optics supplies estimated at $1,169,095 and for lighting supplies estimated at $693,039.

Jones & Lee Supply Company, Knoxville, received an award valued at $736,276 for panel boards, circuit breakers, transformers, and distribution panels.

Edwards Supply Company of Oak Ridge will provide raceways and cable tray commodities for approximately $1,704,335.

These contract schedules are intended to last for the life of the SNS construction project, which is scheduled for completion in June 2006.

When completed, the SNS will become the world's leading research facility for study of the structure and dynamics of materials using neutrons. SNS will operate as a user facility that will enable researchers from the United States and abroad to study the science of materials that forms the basis for new technologies in telecommunications, manufacturing, transportation, information technology, biotechnology, and health.

Oak Ridge National Laboratory is managed by UT-Battelle for the Department of Energy.
