Dr. Curtis Travis receives professional award

Dr. Curtis Travis, director of the Center for Risk Management at the Department of Energy's (DOE) Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), has won the Outstanding Support Award from the East Tennessee chapter of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE).

At the awards event celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, the East Tennessee SHPE and the Department of Energy/Oak Ridge Operations Hispanic Employment Program Advisory Council recognized Travis's support of continued development of SHPE as well as his contributions toward increasing the number of Hispanics in professional positions at ORNL.

Travis earned both his B.A. in mathematics and physics and his M.A. in biomathematics from the California State University in Fresno. He received a Ph.D. in applied mathematics from the University of California at Davis. Travis, a resident of Knoxville, has been with ORNL since 1976.

ORNL, one of DOE's multiprogram national research and development facilities, is managed by Lockheed Martin Energy Systems, which also manages the Oak Ridge K-25 Site and the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant.
