OAK RIDGE, Tenn., Sept. 26, 2013 – Richard Serino, deputy administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), visited Oak Ridge National Laboratory Sept. 25 to learn about the laboratory’s supercomputing capabilities that could be useful in responding to emergencies.
Serino is touring the United States to view innovative technologies that could aid emergency responders. He was impressed with what ORNL has to offer with regard to innovative technologies that can help emergency response.
“We were able to see some of the opportunities they have and some of the great work they’ve been doing, the data they have and how they’ve been able to share that data to help us in response,” said Serino, who spent two days in Oak Ridge, which included participation in several public forums on emergency response. “One of the things we’re looking at is how we can share various data points where people can actually look at that data and have the information they need to make some of those decisions. This applies to local, state and federal emergency management agencies and the public.”
