OAK RIDGE, Tenn., Feb. 20, 2009 — Students teams from 15 universities have been selected to advance to the semi-final round of the 2009 Global Venture Challenge 2009 March 25-27 at the Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
The 2009 teams are: Clark Atlanta University/Morehouse College; Duke University; Lund University; Missouri University of Science & Technology; Purdue University; South Dakota State University; University of Maryland, College Park; University of Memphis; University of North Carolina, Charlotte; University of South Florida (two teams); University of Tennessee; University of Toledo; University of Washington; and West Virginia University.
The Global Venture Challenge, now in its third year, is an educational contest featuring entrepreneurial and technology-based business proposals presented by students from around the world.
The teams will be judged by panels of energy executives, venture capitalists, technologists, entrepreneurs and legal experts. The winning graduate student team will receive $25,000, and high school students will compete for $4,000 scholarships.
This year's Challenge, supported by the Department of Energy's Office of Industrial Technologies and UT-Battelle, also will include an Energy Venture Showcase of energy efficiency products and services from several participating companies.
