The Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility, also known as the Jefferson Lab, is a Department of Energy (DOE) nuclear physics research laboratory in Newport News, Va. Grunder will discuss the laboratory's experimental program in nuclear physics, as well as research and development in superconducting radiofrequency technology.
Grunder is internationally recognized in nuclear and accelerator physics. Before joining the Jefferson Lab in 1985, he served as deputy director of general sciences at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory in California.
A native of Switzerland, he has a master's degree in mechanical engineering from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, West Germany, and a doctorate in experimental nuclear physics from the University of Basel, Switzerland.
Grunder is a member of the American Physical Society, the European Physical Society, the Swiss Physical Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He received the DOE Distinguished Associate Award in 1996.
