Topic:

July 22, 2015 — Sergei Kalinin, a researcher in the Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences at the Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory, has been named a fellow of AVS.

AVS is an international professional society for researchers in the areas of surface, interface, vacuum and thin-film science and technology.

Kalinin, who directs ORNL's Institute for Functional Imaging of Materials, was cited "for development of revolutionary scanning probe microscopy techniques and application to transformative scientific discoveries in physics, chemistry, and materials sciences.”

UT-Battelle manages ORNL for the Department of Energy’s Office of Science. The Office of Science is the single largest supporter of basic research in the physical sciences in the United States, and is working to address some of the most pressing challenges of our time.
