Milan honored by National Urban League

David Milan, Management Systems Integration manager for the Department of Energy's (DOE) Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), has been honored by the National Urban League for his work in its Black Executive Exchange program.

He was honored June 1 during the organization's 31st annual conference in Atlanta with a Five-Year Milestone Award in recognition of his efforts on behalf of the educational advancement of college students who have participated in the exchange program.

Milan, who has worked at ORNL since 1998 and is accountable for setting up the infrastructure for all management systems to allow for the presence of an efficient business strategy and structure. He previously was director of safety and health at ORNL. Milan came to Oak Ridge in 1978 at the old Oak Ridge Gaseous Diffusion Plant, now East Tennessee Technology Park.

He earned a bachelor's degree in 1974 from the University of Tennessee Martin and a master's in 1978 in occupational health from the University of Tennessee. Milan is an American Board of Industrial Hygiene-certified industrial hygienist.

Milan and his wife, Sheryl, have two daughters and are residents of Farragut. The family is active in church and community activities.
