Tougaloo College of Jackson, Miss., will host the 2000 Mississippi Science Bowl Saturday, Feb. 19, in partnership with the Department of Energy's (DOE) Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) of Oak Ridge, Tenn.
The Science Bowl is a fast-paced competition that offers teams of high school students a chance to match their wits in math and science. The winning team in the state competition will be eligible to compete in the National Science Bowl in May in Washington, D.C., with the other regional winners.
DOE has sponsored the National Science Bowl competition in the nation's capital for the past 10 years. Participating teams are winners of regional competitions across the country. ORNL is a DOE multiprogram research facility and is managed by Lockheed Martin Energy Research Corporation.
Each team will have four players, one alternate and a coach. Questions will focus on the disciplines of astronomy, biology, chemistry, computer, earth and general science, mathematics and physics. There are several rounds of elimination competition in two divisions. The surviving teams in each division compete in the final round for the championship.
