Bavarian Science Minister Wolfgang Heubisch said ORNL is a natural venue for his state's scientists and science students to expand their research and knowledge.
"I know Oak Ridge National Laboratory is well known all over the world," Heubisch said after meeting with ORNL Director Thom Mason and signing a letter of intent to begin the exchange program. "That's why I wanted to see it for myself and get an idea for an exchange program for students. Maybe we can work together to strengthen our international relationships - especially here in the state of Tennessee."
Heubisch expects an active two-way pipeline of people will develop because of the exchange program.
"A lot of students from Bavaria will find their way to Tennessee," Heubisch said. "On the other side, a lot of students from Tennessee will find their way to Bavaria."
ORNL is managed by UT-Battelle for the Department of Energy's Office of Science.
