ORNL corporate fellow named delegate to international conference

Dr. Stan A. David, Lockheed Martin Energy Research Corp. corporate fellow at the Department of Energy's (DOE) Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), has been selected as a U.S. delegate to the International Institute of Welding Annual Assembly scheduled for September in Budapest, Hungary.

David will consult with other U.S. experts on issues to be discussed during the week-long international conference.

He is leader of the Materials Joining and Nondestructive Testing Group in ORNL's Metals and Ceramics Division. David developed the Basic Energy Sciences Welding Science program at ORNL. His current interests are solidification behavior of welds, welding of intermetallic alloys, phase stability, process modeling and residual stresses in weldments.

David is a fellow of the American Welding Society, American Association for the Advancement of Science and American Society for Metals (ASM) International. He has served as general chairman of the International Conference on Trends in Welding Research.

Holding B.S. and M.S. degrees in metallurgical engineering from the Indian Institute of Science, David earned a doctorate in metallurgical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. He holds adjunct professorships at Ohio State University and the Colorado School of Mines.

David is a resident of West Knoxville.
