Employed at ORNL since 1978, Schultz has been head of the department since 1993. Previous positions at ORNL were staff member of the Radioisotope Production Department, group leader in the department, and group leader and department head in the Waste Management and Remedial Action Division.
Schultz is a member of the American Society for Testing and Materials and the American Nuclear Society. He was awarded a patent for a device to detect hidden explosives.
He graduated from Hofstra (N.Y.) University with a bachelor's degree in physical chemistry and earned a master's degree in nuclear chemistry from Purdue University. He is pursuing his doctorate in nuclear engineering from the University of Tennessee.
Schultz and his wife, Angelyn Gettelfinger Campbell, reside in Knoxville with their son, Shane Campbell.
ORNL, one of DOE's multiprogram national research and development facilities, is managed by Lockheed Martin Energy Systems, which also manages the Oak Ridge K-25 Site and the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant.
