ORNL program manager appointed to two committees

June 23, 1995 — Dr. Ajay K. Rathi, research and development program manager in the Energy Division's Center for Transportation Analysis at the Department of Energy's (DOE) Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), has been appointed to the Editorial Advisory Board of the American Society of Engineers' Journal of Transportation Engineering and to the Transportation Research Board's Committee on Traffic Signal Systems.

In these three-year posts, Rathi's duties will include reviewing and editing papers submitted for publication, selecting papers for annual awards and participating in transportation-related conferences.

Rathi previously served on the Committee on Traffic Flow Theory and Characteristics and on the Committee on Expert Systems of the Transportation Research Board, National Research Council. He began these three-year appointments in 1990. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Intelligent Transportation Systems America and the Society for Computer Simulation.

Rathi joined ORNL in 1987 as a research staff member in the Energy Division. He had previously worked for a consulting firm in Long Island, N.Y., after receiving a master's degree and a doctorate in civil engineering from Ohio State University. He received a bachelor's degree in engineering from Ravishankar University in India.

Rathi lives in Farragut with his wife, Anju, and his two children, Vinay, 6, and Neha, 3.

ORNL, one of DOE's multiprogram national research and development facilities, is managed by Lockheed Martin Energy Systems, which also manages the Oak Ridge K-25 Site and the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant.
